Dear LAC Family,

While school may be coming to end and vacation plans are being laid, June is going to be a very busy month at Lake. Please take time to read about the important upcoming congregational meeting next Wednesday, the launch of MyLAC online portal, the changes in Adult Ministries and all of the community and serving opportunities that abound here at Lake.

Annual Congregational Meeting (June 2)

Please join us next Wednesday at 7 pm in the Worship Center as we receive new members, elect new church leaders, adopt our 2010-2011 Annual Budget, consider an amendment to the church by-laws to remove an ambiguity that affects the way the church membership list is maintained, and receive the recommendation of the search team to call Walter Alexander as a Pastor of Adult Ministries. A biography of Walter is available in the worship center lobby or on our website - here. (Please be sure to pick up your copy of the Proposed Congregational Leadership Brochure and Ministry Budget from the Worship Center lobby or literature racks this weekend or download them from here. (If you're not a member, but consider LAC your church home, you're welcome to attend. If you'd like to become a member, please attend our Membership Seminar on July 17. Click here for more information.)

COMMUNITY

Green Oaks Camp

Starting today, over 300 people from the LAC family will be at Green Oak Ranch celebrating Memorial day weekend. Please pray for the safety of everyone who will be attending. (If you have not had a chance, sign up for this special time next year - its a great opportunity to meet people, join in real community – where children, students and adults can just hang out.)

MyLAC Launch

We will be launching the new MyLAC Family Portal to the LAC family which will replace most of the functionality of the legacy "Secure" site and offer new opportunities for building community. This new portal will allow the LAC Family to update their contact information, Submit confidential Prayer Requests, search for and join a small group, search and sign up for volunteer opportunities as well as view Helping Hand Housing ads. We will be adding new capabilities to this online tool for years to come. Each individual or family in the Church's database will receive an e-mail with their secure username and password by the end of the first week of June. If you have not received your e-mail, please check your junk mail folder first, then contact the I.T. Department at infosys@lakeave.org or call the database coordinator at 626.817.4524. We will be happy to resend you the log-in information. Our first step in the MyLAC journey will be for you to log-in, check your membership information and uppdate it to ensure that it is accurate and review the online tools available to you.

Picture People All-Church Pictorial Directory Final Proof

Thank you all for your patience as we work on preparing the photography and roster information from the over 900 LAC families that participated in this directory process. We are coming into the home stretch with regard to proofing and have posted a third and final revision which you can download from our website. The pictures will still be grainy as we have compressed them in order for it to download as quickly as possible. However, the size and positioning of the photos and the information provided under the photo and in the roster section is complete. If you still find an error, please use the directory proof form or contact Emil Tulcan, Director of Communications and I.T., as quickly as possible so that we can correct the information before we go to press. All revisions must be received by Monday, June 7 to be included in the final directory. Click here to view the proof.

Gospel Lunch: A Taste of the South (June 6)

Next Sunday, plan on skipping breakfast because High School ministries along with cooks flying in from the south will prepare a fabulous feast to support their High School ministry trip to New Orleans this summer. They will prepare an all-you-can-eat meal including, but not limited to: red beans and rice, sausage, BBque pulled pork, broccoli and cheese corn bread, southern style green beans, homemade cakes and pies, sweet tea, lemonade - and whatever surprises they feel like cooking up! A tax-deductible $25 donation is your ticket to ride. The event will be held on the main patio area. Tickets can be purchased from LAC's online store here and from Diana Herren in the Student Ministries office.

Summer ALPHA Course (June 6)

Also starting next Sunday morning is the Summer ALPHA Course - a place for you to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over nine thought-provoking weekly sessions. The atmosphere at ALPHA is low-key, friendly and fun! ALPHA includes light refreshments, a relevant video topic and an engaging small group discussion time. Everyone and anyone who has questions about the Christian faith or is new to the Christian faith is welcome to come. The course is set to take place at 11 am in Family Life Center Room 202. Re-alignment of Adult Ministries

After the retirement of Dave Koser last summer we began a search for a new Pastor to join Bill Mead and John Secrest on the Adult Ministries team. Thank you for your patience in this process, and how so many have stepped up to help fill in the gap especially among our ministries to Senior Adults. Last fall we took this transition as an opportunity to evaluate how we serve adults at Lake. There was strong support from many, especially among our Seniors, to move to a more intergenerational approach. As we considered how to do this and still meet the needs of our unique life stages we proposed a new approach that functions more like a "family practice." Instead of specific pastors for different life stages, we would work together as a team to provide the best care and shepherding for entire LAC Family.

Individuals or groups may still have a closer relationship with one pastor who they consider their primary care pastor, but all of the Adult Ministry Pastors would be available and will work together, bringing their various gifts and experiences, to help provide the best pastoral care and leadership needed, regardless of life stage. An exciting part of this restructuring was the creation of a new position called Minister of Visitation and Care or Chaplain. This part-time position enables us to devote someone to the specific needs of those who are hospitalized, ill or need special care. We are thrilled that Pastor Dave Koser returned in March to fill this important role on our team.

As a result of these changes, we are phasing out the use of life stage titles for our pastors. Instead of a Young, Middle, and Senior Adult Pastor, we look forward to having a team of three Adult Ministry Pastors plus a Chaplain. We are thrilled with the call of Walter Alexander to join us and to be able to serve you with a complete team. Thanks again for your prayers and your patience with this important process.

LACF Summer Camp Fund Drive: Send a Child, Change A Life Forever

A child in need is waiting right now to hear if they will get to go to summer camp this year. We don't want to turn a single child away from the life-changing experience. That's why LACF is asking for your support today. Last year, because of your generosity, more than 50 participants went to Lone Tree Bible Ranch in Wyoming and experienced an amazing God-filled summer. When we returned, we knew all of the students had a great time with each other and were able to see God in a new way. One of the great things about getting out of Pasadena and going to a completely different environment is that the kids leave everything they know behind which allows them to look back on their life at home with new eyes. Today, a student's life is so full of the media, friends, and every thing else that is a part of urban life; God can be drowned out. When kids are separated from everyday life and are alone in the silence, God makes contact with them in ways that are new and fresh. It's amazing to watch when the kids realize that this one true living God is not erratic, mean spirited or unpredictable; but that God is completely good and can be trusted all the time, this is why your support of our Summer Camp Fund Drive is needed today! For more information visit the LACF website at www.lakeavefoundation.org.
